Maine Agricultural Trades Show to go virtual, again

The annual Maine Agricultural Trades Show, which normally draws thousands of consumers and producers to the Augusta Civic Center, will be held online for the second year in a row due to the sustained surge of COVID-19.

The virtual event, organized by the Maine Department of Agriculture Conservation and Forestry, will be held Jan. 10 to Jan. 14.

"After listening to concerns raised by our industry's stakeholders, it became clear that transitioning to an online event is the safest option during a surge in COVID-19 for this year's Agricultural Trades Show," said Bureau of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources Director Nancy McBrady.

"While we are disappointed we will not be gathering in person as planned, we look forward to celebrating our agricultural community and its many contributions to the state of Maine virtually," McBrady said.

The event, taking place for the 81st year, typically is a forum for agricultural and related organizations to network and connect around business needs and trends. Producers and consumers visit the show to get professional expertise, learn about technologies and to gather information on the agriculture industry.

The event offers promotion opportunities for agricultural service providers, equipment and supplies, and organizations. It also includes presentations about current topics, research and business trends, certification courses and annual meetings focused on agriculture, natural resource management and food systems.

"Throughout the pandemic, our agricultural community has adapted to provide for the people of Maine. The department is adapting too to provide the resources our industry needs virtually so they can address the challenges of the pandemic and plan for the future," said DACF Commissioner Amanda Beal.
