Boatbuilders, brokers and a host of marine-related businesses will gather this weekend in Rockland’s Harbor Park for the annual Maine Boat and Home Show.
It's a return for the show, which was cancelled last year, with organizers citing staffing shortages and other factors. The show is hosted by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine, which is based in Rockland.
This weekend, some 40 boats will be on the docks, ranging from tenders, runabouts and sport boats to luxury cruisers and trawlers.
In addition, three of Maine’s iconic vessels will visit the outer dock: Maine Seacoast Mission’s Sunbeam will be tied up Friday, 12-Meter racing yacht Gleam will be on hand Saturday, and the schooner Harvey Gamage will visit Sunday.
On shore, another 20 "trailerable" models, along with marine equipment, clothing, and boat toys will be on display. Tent exhibitors include home furnishings, furniture, jewelry, art and homeowner services.
“The collection of boats and exhibitors at this year’s show is impressive,” said show manager Kate Holden. “Attendees will discover boats for sale, local artists and makers, and ideas about how to enjoy life here on the coast. We have a full schedule of events that offers something for everyone to enjoy.”
There will be food vendors, an area for kids’ activities and musical performances, including the Blue Hill Brass on Friday, Nashville recording artists Wild Bill and the Bruisers on Saturday, and roving fiddle player Cara Lauzon on Sunday.
Educational presentations, with vendor demos on Friday, will include a range of topics, from oar making to electric propulsion to green cleaning products for the boat and home. On Saturday industry experts will explain what’s involved in buying and owning a new or used boat in two seminars. The morning session is geared to sailboats, with powerboats the focus in the afternoon.
Throughout the weekend, local plein air painters will be on site, and their works will be on display Sunday.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
