Maine gets $7.9M in Homeland Security grants

Maine will get $7.9 million in grants from the Department of Homeland Security to fund state and local programs to prepare for regional and national emergencies.

U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said the awards will include $3.46 million for state planning, organization and equipment purchases aimed at preventing or responding to terrorist acts or catastrophic events, $3.32 million for emergency preparedness and response activities, $924,422 to fund a border security effort called Operation Stonegarden, which seeks to coordinate border control efforts of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, and $211,988 for the port areas of Portland, Searsport, Wells and Portsmouth to fund transportation infrastructure security projects.
