Maine promotional products distributor acquires another British company

Geiger, a Lewiston-based promotional products distributor that has been growing through several recent mergers and acquisitions, has made another one.

The company’s UK subsidiary, GeigerBTC, has purchased Lancewich Ltd., a distributor based in Wokingham, England, about 40 miles west of London. Terms were not disclosed in a news release Tuesday.

Lancewich, which has been in business for over 30 years, will support Geiger’s growing business across Europe, the company said in the release.

Lancewich Director Nicholas Martin said, “finding the right company to continue giving our clients the same level of care locally, nationally and internationally was paramount. Geiger shares exactly the same business principles as Lancewich.“

Geiger President Jo-an Lantz said, “We are so proud that Lancewich chose to trust GeigerBTC. Nicholas and his team have wonderful customers and we’ll be sure to carry on with that priority service approach.”

Last October, Geiger acquired Shout Promotional Merchandise, of London, a nine-person promotional products and marketing company founded in 2003.

GeigerBTC was formed in 2018 by the merger of Geiger and a British distributor. In July 2019, GeigerBTC opened a logistics office in the Netherlands to support the global business.

In the U.S., Geiger company purchased Freeport-based Winter People Image Marketing in May 2019.

With 300 employees and over 450 affiliated sales representatives, Geiger is one of the largest family-owned, family-managed promotional products companies in the world, according to its website. The company's 2018 sales totaled $210 million, according to the Advertising Specialty Institute, up 13.5% from 2017. Geiger's sales revenue grew at an average rate of 5.8% over the previous five years.

Geiger was founded in 1878 and moved its headquarters from New Jersey to Lewiston in 1955. The UK subsidiary opened in 1977 and has about 80 employees.
