ME's boat builders target the world

Maine's boat building industry this morning announced a new $2 million campaign to promote Maine's $650 million boat building industry to the rest of the world.

The campaign, funded by a $15 million federal grant funneled through the North Star Alliance, which represents Maine companies involved in the boat building industry, includes a new logo ("Art and Soul"), new website, as well as a print advertising campaign that will run in national magazines such as Fortune, The New York Times Magazine and Wooden Boat, according to a press release.

The campaign also includes training for Maine's boat builders to help them learn to promote their products to a global audience. "This is new territory for many of our builders," Jane Wellehan, president of Maine Built Boats, said in the release. "They are stepping out into the world in a new way."
