Michaud open to run for Blaine House

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud said he's considering a run for governor in Maine, further crowding the list of potential Democratic Party contenders.

The Portland Press Herald reported Michaud has not set a deadline for deciding whether he'll run, but a Public Policy Polling survey released last month showed Michaud outperforming the former Gov. John Baldacci and 1st District U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree in a one-on-one race against GOP incumbent Gov. Paul LePage, who is expected to run for re-election.

Both LePage and Eliot Cutler, an Independent candidate, have already formed campaign committees for the upcoming election, leaving the Democrats to identify its standard-bearer in Maine's 2014 gubernatorial election.

According to the PPP survey, Democrats could face a repeat of 2010 in a three-way race, where Democrats and Cutler split the liberal vote and return LePage to office.
