Mills heads toward SBA confirmation

Karen Gordon Mills may be confirmed by the Senate as early as today for the post of head of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Mills received the unanimous support of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee in a confirmation hearing yesterday. Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, who recommended Mills to President Obama, is the committee's ranking Republican member.

Mills outlined plans for the SBA in yesterday's hearing, including using $730 million in economic stimulus funds to boost the SBA's business loan activity, bringing new leaders to the agency, improving its technology and advocating for small businesses in the Obama administration, according to the Portland Press Herald. Mills, a resident of Brunswick, is president of MMP Group there, a private equity firm.
