New Balance tries to sidestep controversy

Courtesy / Flickr, Sandy Dover New Balance is attempting to quell the concerns of many on social media that are concerned about the claim by a white-supremacist group that the company manufactures the "official shoe of white people."

New Balance, which has three factories in Maine, continued to defend itself after a wave of criticism, the Washington Post reported.

After praising President-elect Donald Trump for his promise to repeal the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the company dealt with a social media backlash and people posting videos burning their New Balance sneakers. A white-supremacist group declared New Balance the “official shoes of white people.”

New Balance told The Associated Press late Monday it ‘‘does not tolerate bigotry or hate in any form.”’

Boston-based New Balance has factories in Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Norway.
