New MaineGeneral hospital tops occupancy expectations

One month into the operation of MaineGeneral’s new 192-bed Augusta hospital, officials say occupancy is higher than expected.

The Kennebec Journal reported the hospital has averaged an 86% occupancy rate since Nov. 9, close to what health care experts say is the optimal balance between hospital occupancy and bed availability.

Chuck Hays, the health care network’s CEO, said that the new $312 million hospital has been full at least one day a week since opening.
