New Hires

Maine Course Hospitality Group recently hired Aaron Marks as general manager and Bruno Inacio as director of sales of the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Portland. Most recently, Marks was a member of the opening and training team for new hotels with Marriott Corp., while Inacio was CFO of Omni Training Solutions in San Antonio.

Varney Agency in Scarborough recently hired Mike Beardsley as a producer and director of strategic partnerships for its American Loggers Insurance program. Beardsley previously served as the executive director for the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay recently hired Darlene Trew Crist as director of communications. Crist was previously principal of Crist Communications.

Occupational Medical Consulting LLC in Leeds recently hired Jeff Whitaker as sales and marketing director.

Marnie Coleman was recently hired as an associate broker at KW Commercial in Portland, the commercial real estate arm of Keller Williams Realty.

Bearfoot Realty in Oxford recently hired Lorie Olson as a broker. Olson has more than 20 years of experience in the housing and real estate industries in western Maine.

The Portland Chapter of SCORE recently hired Tom Nastro and Chris Dargie as certified SCORE volunteer mentors. Nastro has small business experience with a focus on business operations while Dargie has legal experience with a focus on small business issues.

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce recently hired Patricia Michaud as a part-time customer service specialist/bookkeeper.

Pine Tree Society, a nonprofit in Bath that provides direct service programs to people with disabilities, recently hired Adam MacDonald as marketing coordinator, Gabrielle Lemay as direct support professional, Melissa Bailey as administrative assistant and Robert Fairbrother as receptionist assistant.

Bergen & Parkinson LLC, a law firm in Kennebunk, recently hired attorneys Brin Richer and Scott Edmunds. Richer joined the firm's estate planning team while Edmunds focuses his practice on real estate, business and commercial law transactions.

The Maine Community Foundation in Portland recently hired Timothy Smith as controller. Smith was most recently vice president of finance and CFO of the Webber Group of Cos. in Bangor.

Maine Career Connect, a Bangor nonprofit program of the University of Maine Rising Tide Center, recently named Michelle Hale as project leader. Hale most recently was with United Way of Eastern Maine.

The city of Portland recently hired Jessica Shumaker Grondin as director of communications. Grondin was previously the marketing manager for Pierce Atwood LLP.

Kennebec Savings Bank in Augusta recently hired Kevin Healey as vice president and chief human resources officer. Healey was previously with St. Mary's Health System in Lewiston.

CEI, a nonprofit community development corporation and community development financial institution in Wiscasset, recently hired Chandler Jones as loan and investment officer and an associate with CEI Ventures Inc.; Kevin Smith, as a data analyst; and Keith Burrell, as an office coordinator.

Bangor Savings Bank recently hired Alina Churchill-Burke as mortgage development officer for Cumberland and Androscoggin counties.

Brann & Isaacson, a law firm in Lewiston, recently announced that Connor Beatty has become associated with the firm.

Transitions at Bedard, a women's health and cancer care products division of Bedard Pharmacy & Medical Supplies in Auburn, recently hired Danielle Marquis as wig and skincare specialist.

The Frances Perkins Center in Newcastle recently hired Michael Chaney as executive director, effective April 1. Chaney was previously the executive director of the Yarmouth Historical Society.

U.S. Sen. Angus King recently hired Kathleen Connery Dawe to serve as director of communications in his Washington, D.C. office. Dawe most recently served as an associate at Mayer Brown in Washington, D.C.

Woodfords Family Services, a Westbrook nonprofit serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families statewide, recently hired David Payne as a licensed, certified physician assistant to the Psychiatry Services program. Previously Payne was the physician assistant for the Developmental Disorders Unit at Spring Harbor Hospital.

MaineGeneral Health recently hired Terry Brann as administrative director of finance. Previously, Brann was acting deputy commissioner and state controller at Maine's Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

Promotions

TD Bank recently promoted Corey Thompson, Dawn Mugford and Patricia Haverly-Johndro. Thompson, previously assistant branch manager in Camden, was promoted to assistant vice president and manager for the branch located at 34 School St. in Rockland; Mugford, previously vice president, retail credit risk, was promoted to senior vice president, retail credit risk portfolio manager in South Portland; and Haverly-Johndro was promoted to assistant vice president and manager for branches located at 76 Main St. in Newport and 138 Main St. in Pittsfield.

The boards of trustees of MaineHealth and HomeHealth Visiting Nurses recently approved the appointment of Donna DeBlois as president and CEO of HomeHealth Visiting Nurses. DeBlois had served interim president and CEO since October 2013.

Critical Alert Systems, a nurse call system manufacturer in Westbrook, recently promoted Dan Shaw to senior vice president and Lynne Haley to vice president of paging operations.

Central Maine Orthopaedics in Auburn recently promoted Kelly David to marketing and public relations manager. David was previously the marketing and public affairs representative.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, recently elected Peter Klein as shareholder. Klein is a member of the firm's business services group.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, recently elected attorneys Charles Katz-Leavy, Keith Glidden and Tannaz Nourafchan Saponaro as partners of the firm. Katz-Leavy joined the firm in 2006 and practices in the firm's Portland office. Glidden and Saponaro practice out of the firm's Boston office. The firm also announced that Aaron Harris was promoted to marketing coordinator.

The Maine Department of Labor recently announced that the Bureau of Employment Services promoted Peter Diplock to manager of the Augusta CareerCenter. Diplock was previously the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation casework supervisor at the Lewiston CareerCenter. The department also announced the promotion of four employees in the Bureau of Labor Standards. Steve Greeley and Michael LaPlante were promoted to the leadership positions of the Workplace Safety and Health Division while Verna Eldridge and Scott Cotnoir were promoted to leadership positions in the Wage and Hour Division.

ES Boulos Co., an electrical contractor in Westbrook, recently promoted Steve Saucier to project manager in its commercial division. Saucier was previously a project engineer.

Norway Savings Bank in Norway recently promoted Brian Bernier to vice president and investment officer of the Norway Savings Asset Management Group. Bernier was previously regional vice president, retail banking for the southern region.

Achievements

Ali Ahmida, professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, University of New England in Biddeford, was recently invited by the United Nations to consult with its Support Mission in Libya on areas pertaining to regional and tribal politics, national dialogue and reconciliation.

Entrepreneur magazine recently named SERVPRO, with a franchise located in Westbrook, No. 7 on its annual Franchise 500 rankings. It was the fifth consecutive year the company landed in the top-10.

Volk Packaging Corp. in Biddeford recently announced that Shipping Supervisor Barbie Poitras was named as a 2014 STEP Award winner by the Manufacturing Institute. The award recognizes women who have demonstrated science, technology, engineering and production excellence in manufacturing.

The Brunswick Downtown Association recently recognized its annual award winners. Board member Roxane Rathje was awarded the volunteer of the year; Mid Coast Health Services and Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority were named Business Members of the Year; and Brunswick town manager Gary Brown was recognized for his role in the development of Station Avenue and the new police station.

Brian Bernatchez, president and managing partner at Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville, was recently recognized as a top financial adviser and named to the LPL Financial Chairman's Council for 2013.

WGTECH, an advanced information technology company in Westbrook, recently announced that it achieved the Cisco Express Collaboration Specialization. This specialization recognizes the company as having fulfilled the training requirements and program prerequisites to sell, deploy and support integrated Cisco network solutions.

Gorham Savings Bank recently presented employees Cheryl Perry and Julie Case with the 2013 Gorham's Greatest Customer Service Award. Perry is a personal banker II at the bank's Standish branch and Case is senior risk and compliance officer at the bank's operations center in Gorham.

The National Court Reporters Association recently announced that Dennis Ford, an official court reporter for the U.S. District Court of Maine, earned a Certified Realtime Reporter certification. The certification reflects Ford's knowledge of real-time technology and proficiency and accuracy of reporting.

Central Maine Moving & Storage in Bangor recently announced that Dustin Moyer, a relocation consultant, was certified by American Moving & Storage Association as a Certified Moving Consultant.
