Newsworthy people and performances for Aug. 19, 2019

New hires

Gawron Turgeon Architects PC, an architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and master planning firm in Scarborough, hired Haley Huston and Allyson Wyand as interior designers and Sarah Wissler as marketing director. Huston was previously an interior designer at Dewing Schmid Kearns Architects + Planners, Wyand a certified interior designer at WBRC Architects and Engineers and Wissler was with the University of New England.

Diversified Communications, an international media company based in Portland, hired Meggan Kilmurry as a marketing manager. Kilmurry was previously employed by Seventy Five State in Portland.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare in Westbrook hired Collen Foley-Ingersoll as senior director of autism and developmental disorders. Most recently Foley-Ingersoll served as clinical director for Woodfords Family Services Pineland Preschool, a special needs preschool for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.

RE/MAX Shoreline hired Liz Sylvester as an agent in its Portland office.

Clark Insurance in Portland hired Brandi Beaumont as an account manager in its personal insurance department and Kathleen Joy as an account manager in its business insurance department.

Maine Medical Center in Portland hired Odette Perriel as vice president of patient care support services. Perriel was previously director of environmental services at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Business Lending Solutions in Hampden hired Christy Davalli as vice president of lending for the greater Bangor, Waterville and August region. Davalli has spent 14 years in retail banking including management and business lending and 14 years as a commercial lender.

MaineHealth in Portland hired Mary Ottolini as the George W. Hallett MD chair of pediatrics at Maine Medical Center, overseeing The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and the MaineHealth pediatric service line. Ottolini was at Children’s National Medical Center, George Washington University, in Washington D.C., where she most recently served as vice chair of education, designated institutional official and professor, Department of Pediatrics.

Hobbs Funeral Homes in South Portland hired Katelyn Syphers as a licensed funeral director.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn hired Jessica Donahue as marketing and communications manager. Donahue was previously an account supervisor at Marshall Communications.

Maine Behavioral Healthcare in Biddeford hired Diane Mankus as senior director of behavioral health services for Southern Maine Health Care. Most recently, Mankus was the executive director at Serenity at Summit, an adult detoxification acute treatment services and residential clinical stabilization services treatment facility in Haverhill, Mass.

Promotions

New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland promoted Kate Carlson to pharmacy director. Carlson was previously a staff pharmacist.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife promoted Emily MacCabe to director of information and education. MacCabe, who became the department’s first non-appointed information and education director, as the position previously was politically appointed, was previously media and graphics supervisor.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn promoted Erin Yarema to director of major and planned giving. Yarema was previously a major gifts officer.

Boston Financial Management in Portland promoted Katie Exchange to associate wealth manager after she earned a Certified Financial Planner designation.

Cumberland County Federal Credit Union in Falmouth promoted Ross Biette to senior vice president of information systems.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, promoted Scott Cummings to vice president and treasurer. Cummings began his career at the company in 1998 and is currently the corporate controller.

VIP Tires & Service in Auburn promoted Tim Winkeler to president and CEO, Scott Pickard to CFO, Gary MacCausland to senior vice president of operations and merchandising, John Quirk to executive chairman and Allan Kirkland to CFO of Quirk Automotive. Winkeler was president and COO, Pickard vice president of finance, MacCausland vice president of operations, John Quirk chairman and CEO and Kirkland CFO of VIP Tires & Service.

The city of Portland promoted Aaron Geyer to social services administrator. Geyer, who has worked for the city’s social services division for 13 years, had previously been serving as interim administrator.

U.S. Cellular promoted Adam Lerette to sales manager in Waterville. Lerette was previously sales manager in Farmington.

Camden National Bank promoted Ryan Smith to senior vice president, director of credit administration. Smith was previously director of commercial banking for central and midcoast Maine.

Appointments

Portland Downtown added board members Sara Brown, a partner and merchant at David Wood; Krista Cole, owner, Sur Lie; Neil Reiter, partner, R&J Partners LLC; and Gillian West, property manager, J.B. Brown. They will serve three-year terms. The organization also said Dawn Homa and Megan Doane, previously serving as chair appointments, were newly elected for a three-year term. Homa is commercial property manager at Portland Properties while Doane is general manager at Portland Stage.

Tedford Housing, a nonprofit in Brunswick whose mission is to find lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness, elected Roger Brodeur, social service supervisor quality assurance at the Office of Child & Family Services Maine Department of Health & Human Services, president of its board of directors; Patti Lawton, a realtor at Sotheby’s International Realty, vice president; Toni Kemmerle, principal attorney at the Maine Department of Transportation, secretary; and Field Griffith, retired, treasurer. The organization also added John Gallagher, Ally Harper, Jamie Pacheco and Scott Staples to its board. Gallagher is former director of MaineHousing, Harper is marketing assistant at Bath Savings Institution, Pacheco is program manager at Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust and wellness coordinator for the Merrymeeting Food Council and Staples is a retired psychologist.

Delta Dental Plan of Maine in Saco elected Jennifer Brunacini to its board of directors. Brunacini practices at the Jessie Albert Dental and Orthodontic Center in Bath.

Woodard & Curran, an integrated engineering, science and operations company in Portland, elected Rebekah Eggers, an IBM executive in Los Angeles, to its board of directors.

Achievements

Tedford Housing, a nonprofit agency in Brunswick whose mission is to find lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness, recently presented its annual awards. Marilyn Sinskie won the “The Margit Cook Award” for volunteerism; Annie Rose captured the “The Tedford Home Award” for meeting the organization’s mission of ending homelessness; Patty Biggs and Mary O’Brien took home the “The Scooty Brownell Award” for organizational support; and Michelle Thiboutot was recognized for 10 years of employment with the agency.

Michelle Anderson, president of Junior Achievement of Maine, was awarded the national organization’s “MVP Award.” The award is given to organizational associates who exemplify values and behaviors that provide the model for the students it serves and assures the organization a place as a business to be respected in every community where it has a presence.

The Frances Perkins Center in Damariscotta honored Steven Hufnagel, executive director of Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust in Damariscotta, with a “Partners in Place” award for the work he has done to ensure the permanent protection of many acres of land within the Damariscotta watershed.

Nancy Chaney, a registered nurse at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, earned the certified emergency nurse credential from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.

Friends of Acadia presented its “Marianne Edwards Distinguished Service Award” to Bruce Connery and Judy Hazen Connery, retired Acadia National park rangers, at its annual meeting. Other winners included Alan Farnsworth, roads foreman, received the “Outstanding Public Service Award;” volunteers who tend the Wild Gardens of Acadia were given the “Excellence in Volunteerism Award;” and the Acadia Corp., a former park concessionaire which operated gift shops and restaurants on Mount Desert Island, was given the “Conservation Colleague Award.”

U.S. News & World Report named Maine Medical Center in Portland a “Best Regional Hospital” in Maine for 2019-2020 for a seventh straight year. In addition, the hospital’s gynecology program tied for 34th in the nation and the hospital earned a “high performing” ranking in three additional specialties and all nine common procedures and conditions included in the annual survey of U.S. hospitals.

U.S. News & World Report named Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland a “Best Regional Hospital” in Maine for 2019-2020.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland was recognized as a “RE/MAX Catalyst” recipient.

The town of Ashland was recognized for receiving the Maine Department of Labor’s “Safety and Health Award for Public Employers.”

Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville said Katie Brann, client service associate, completed the requirements for a Series 7 investment securities license.

Robert Leonard and his wife, Kathryne Leonard, received the “Pioneer of Osteopathic Medicine Medal” from the University of New England in Biddeford. Robert Leonard is founder of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates and both physicians are alumni of UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The National Safety Council recently announced that seven Hammond Lumber Co. stores won the “2019 Industry Leader Award” for outstanding safety. The award goes to the top 5% member companies, units and facilities that have qualified for the “Occupational Excellence Achievement Award” based on 2018 safety data. The stores recognized were Auburn, Bangor, Belgrade, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Fairfield and Portland.
