New hires

The Maine Justice Foundation in Hallowell hired Michelle Giard Draeger as executive director. Draeger was most recently manager of compliance, legal affairs, privacy and program integrity at Martin’s Point Health Care.

The Maine Public Utilities Commission in Hallowell hired David Braley as director of its telephone and water division. Braley was previously assistant director of the state’s Division of Environmental and Community Health, Drinking Water Program.

Northeast Bank in Lewiston hired Solomon Garber as senior vice president, business development. Most recently, Garber was a director at Rialto Capital Management LLC.

Franklin Savings Bank hired Amanda Lee as branch manager in Jay.

Promotions

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution promoted Denise McIntyre to vice president, Doug Sinclair to auditor, Kenda Bouffard and Karyn Labrie to assistant vice presidents, Julie LoPresti to assistant vice president, payment operations manager and Cody Newton and Amy Sanphy to customer relationship associates. McIntyre and Sinclair were assistant vice presidents, Bouffard was retail loan processing supervisor, Labrie was compliance specialist, LoPresti previously worked in a variety of roles and departments, Newton was a full time teller and Sanphy was senior teller.

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor promoted James Clarke to senior physician executive and senior vice president. Clarke, who has been serving in the interim role of senior physician executive since February, joined the organization in 2009 after transitioning from his private surgical practice in New York and has served as chief of surgery and senior physician executive for the Medical Center’s Medical Group.

Appointments

Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center in Windham elected Lindsey Lombardo to its board of directors. Lombardo is branch manager for Norway Savings Bank in Freeport.

GrowSmart Maine added Tim Hobbs, Amy Bassett and Mark Wiesendanger to its board of directors. Hobbs is state director of Maine USDA Rural Development, Bassett is district director for the Small Business Administration and Wiesendanger is development director for MaineHousing.

Farm Credit East, a customer-owned cooperative lender in Enfield, Conn., elected Barry Buck to serve four-year terms on its board of directors. Buck is co-owner and cooperatively manages crop production, marketing and sales at Buck Farms, a 1,000-acre cash crop and potato farm in Mapleton.

The U.S. Small Business Administration said Nat Peirce and Aaron Anker, owners of Bountiful Berry Inc. dba GrandyOats in Hiram, were selected to receive the U.S. Small Business Administration’s “2020 Small Business Persons of the Year Award” for Maine. Other SBA award winners included: “Maine and New England Home Based Business of the Year,” Sarah Lapine, Watershed Floral, Pownal; “Maine and New England Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year,” Gregory Greuel, Wayside Publishing, Freeport; “Maine Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Business of the Year,” Joel and Melissa Gilbert, Berry Fruit Farm, Livermore Falls: “Maine Small Business Exporter of the Year,” Jodi Ann Breau, Dental Lace, Cape Elizabeth; “Maine Woman Owned Small Business of the Year,” Karen Gellis, Swim Lids, Saco; “Maine Young Entrepreneur of the Year,” Maddie Purcell, Fyood Kitchen, Portland; “Maine Minority Owned Small Business of the Year,” Mariama Jallow, Mariama’s Beauty Supply, Portland; “Maine Micro-Enterprise of the Year,” Robyn and Mike Sealander, Sealander Studio, Ellsworth; “Maine Small Business Manufacturer of the Year,” Heather Lux, True North Beauty, Milo; and “Maine Financial Services Champion of the Year,” Glen Holmes, Community Concepts Finance Corp.

Readiness Associates, a Portland-based national consulting firm that helps clients prepare for natural and man-made disasters, said Ralph Petti discussed “Emergency Preparedness and Business Reopening” after a pandemic during a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses webinar hosted by the Community College of Philadelphia. Petti is principal, operations for the firm.

The National Park Service, Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park and the National Park Foundation awarded Rachel Fowler, Bonnie Newsom and Jay Wason fellowships to conduct research in Acadia National Park as part of Second Century Stewardship. Fowler is laboratory coordinator with UMaine School of Biology and Ecology, Newsom is an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Maine and Wason is an assistant professor of forest ecosystem physiology at the University of Maine.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden announced that Sally Carlisle completed the 12-week class “Aquaculture in Shared Waters” offered by Coastal Enterprises. Carlisle is a member of the business insurance team and based in the company’s Belfast office.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, said it was the only law firm in Maine to receive “Band One” rankings, the highest recognition available, for its commercial litigation and environmental law practices from Chambers and Partners, a publisher of law firm rankings. In addition, the firm reported 24 of its Portland-based attorneys were also recognized in the rankings.

Acorn Engineering Inc., a civil and environmental engineering firm in Portland, announced that Lucas Benedict obtained his Maine Geologist License. Benedict is environmental division leader and senior hydrogeologist with the firm.
