Officials brace for Plum Creek hearing

Maine's Land Use Regulation Commission will hold its first public hearing tomorrow on Plum Creek's controversial development plans for the Moosehead Lake area, and officials in Greenville are expecting a crush of interested parties.

Greenville Town Manager John Simko said they are preparing for 1,000 people to show up at tomorrow's hearing in Greenville High School's auditorium, which can only hold about 450 people, according to the Bangor Daily News. He told the paper he expects the hearing will have a "circus" atmosphere. A second hearing will be held on Sunday in Augusta.

Seattle-based Plum Creek, the nation's largest landowner, is seeking a zoning change to pave the way for 975 house lots and two resorts near Moosehead Lake.
