Online tax portal opens door to more taxes, programs

The second phase of Maine’s new online state tax system is launching Dec. 1 for certain business taxes, including sales, use, service provider, income tax withholding and land use planner commission fees.

“The Maine Tax Portal significantly expands online functionality making it faster, easier, and more convenient for taxpayers to file, pay, and manage their Maine taxes,” said Kirsten Figueroa, commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

The dates when taxpayers and tax professionals can start using the Maine Tax Portal depend on the tax type or program. The rollout schedule is available at Maine.gov/Revenue/Portal.

The Maine Tax Portal replaces and expands Maine Revenue Services’ current online services, including I-File, MEETRS, and E-Z Pay and can already be used for more than 20 different kinds of taxes, including corporate income, estate, franchise, health care provider, insurance premium and cannabis excise.

On May 31, 2023, I-File, MEETRS, and EZ-Pay will be deactivated, for the business taxes listed in the second rollout, after which the Maine Tax Portal will be the sole online filing and payment option for those taxes and programs. The Maine Tax Portal will be rolled out for all tax types and programs in the state by the end of 2024.

Resources, training videos, and other information are at Maine.gov/Revenue/Portal. Questions may be emailed to taxpayerassist@maine.gov with “MTP” in the subject line or by calling MRS at 207-624-9784.
