Pellet mill planned in Houlton

An energy company plans to build a wood pellet manufacturing facility in Houlton that could create up to 40 jobs.

Aroostook Renewable Energy, doing business as Aroostook Pellets, signed a lease on Tuesday with the town of Houlton for a parcel of land at the Houlton International Airport Industrial Park where the company expects to build its facility, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The lease agreement allows the town to terminate the lease if the business does not construct the facility in a year or if the financing falls through, the paper reported. Likewise, the company can back out of the deal with 90 days notice.
