Penobscot Indian Nation gets $220K in fed grants for job training

The Penobscot Indian Nation in Maine will receive more than $200,000 to help with employment and training services for low-income and unemployed adults and youth.

The program, announced Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Labor, includes $194,714 for adult programs and $25,371 for youth programs in the Penobscot Indian Nation.

The grant is part of $70.8 million in grants parceled out to 166 Indian and Native American entities.

The Department of Labor said the funding is designed to “create pathways to middle-class careers” and shows the commitment by the Biden-Harris administration to support “workforce pathways to good-paying jobs for all Americans, including those in typically underserved communities and some of the most geographically challenged areas in the U.S.”
