Pilot program launches in Portland to help major employers’ recruitment efforts
After five successful years supporting employers and relocating families in Bangor, Maine Career Connect is expanding to Portland.
A program of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the organization has just launched a pilot program in the Portland market to support the hiring and retention efforts of three major Portland-area employers: IDEXX, MaineHealth and Unum.
Ula Polsky, a Bangor native and Portland-area resident for the last 13 years, has been hired to run the southern Maine program.
Polsky has a background in economic development and government affairs. In Portland she has supported numerous nonprofits, most notably the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine, as a board member and in an advisory capacity. In her new job she will work with employers in the Portland area to help them attract top talent to the state.
Maine Career Connect has formed an advisory council in Portland to help shape the program. Its members are:
- Dana Connors, president and CEO, Maine State Chamber of Commerce
- Michelle Hale, director of talent acquisition, Dartmouth College
- Quincy Hentzel, president and CEO, Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce
- Kelli Kim, senior talent acquisition specialist, IDEXX Laboratories Inc.
- Ed McKersie, founder/president, Live + Work in Maine and Pro Search Inc.
- Alison Nathanson, director, MaineHealth physician recruitment center
- Anne Niles, senior staffing consultant, Unum
- David Savo, senior talent acquisition manager, IDEXX
- Jessica Smart, executive recruiter, MaineHealth
- Cara Weeks, mobility program manager, Unum.
“I know MCC services have proven to be invaluable to Maine employers as they work to recruit and retain the employees necessary to grow here in Maine,” McKersie said in a news release about Maine Career Connect’s expansion into southern Maine. “Live + Work in Maine is proud to be a partner in this effort.”
