Sheriff's opinion differs from state police

The Piscataquis County Sheriff's Department will not charge Plum Creek Timber Company for the security it provided at a public hearing on the company's development plan for the Moosehead Lake region held earlier this month in Greenville .

Taking a different approach than the Maine State Police and the Greenville Police Department, who plan to charge the company for security provided, Piscataquis County Sheriff John Goggin told the Bangor Daily News yesterday that charging Plum Creek, a taxpayer, to provide security was double-dipping. "That's a public service," Goggin told the paper.
