Stores see post-Christmas spike

While many Maine businesses -- from retailers to Christmas tree growers -- reported weaker-than-expected holiday sales, some saw a dramatic bounce the day after Christmas.

Tree growers in Milbridge and Newburgh told the Associated Press that tighter consumer spending pushed tree sales down slightly, but companies including Freeport retailer L.L.Bean and chain stores like Best Buy yesterday saw heavy traffic. Indeed, L.L.Bean saw crowds begin filing into the store on Christmas Day to redeem gift cards, and saw higher-than-expected online and in-store sales, according to the AP.
