Marin Skincare, known for its Lobster Lotion product, partnered with the University of Maine to create a scholarship to spur innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the scholarship, the partnership will help introduce one of Marin’s newest products, a Blueberry French Toast lip treatment, with UMaine co-branding and "official" treatment.

The product will be available at the UMaine bookstore and other partnered retailers. A portion of sales will be used for the scholarship, which will help pay for a first innovation engineering course.

To start, the scholarship is expected to have a minimum fund of $25,000.

Marin's Blueberry French Toast lip treatment has become the university's official lip treatment, available at the UMaine bookstore and other partnered retailers.

“We started our graduate careers at UMaine like many students do, being curious, thinking outside the box and using science to solve a real problem,” said Marin co-founder Amber Boutiette. “The support and guidance we received from the University was pivotal during the start-up phase of Marin and we want to give other students the chance to make discoveries and launch their own dreams.

About Marin Skincare

Founded by the University of Maine’s Lobster Institute, Marin Skincare has seen success with its body lotion designed to help relieve dry, irritated skin associated with eczema, psoriasis and other dermatitis conditions.

Co-founder Patrick Breeding was a biomedical engineering graduate student at UMaine when he began exploring the potential of glycoproteins found in lobsters — research he pursued alongside co-founder Amber Boutiette, also a UMaine biomedical engineering student.

Both Breeding and Boutiette were named 2023 Mainebiz 40 Under 40 honorees

“Their journey from UMaine students to founders of a nationally recognized brand demonstrates how curiosity and persistence can transform ideas into impact," said Renee Kelly, associate vice president of strategic partnerships, innovation, resources and engagement at UMaine.

"This collaboration offers inspiration and support for current and future students who want to pursue their own dreams through entrepreneurship.”
