S.W. Cole acquires CES Inc. subsidiary

The Bangor-based engineering firm S.W. Cole Engineering Inc. has acquired Summit CMT, a construction materials testing subsidiary of the Brewer-based CES Inc., for an undisclosed price. CES bought the firm earlier this year as part of its acquisition of the 20-employee Summit Environmental Consultants, based in Lewiston.

Denis St. Peter, president of CES, said in a press release that his firm did not plan to sell Summit’s materials testing division, but the deal allows his company to focus on its environmental consulting services.

The employees of Summit CMT will move into S.W. Cole’s offices in Augusta and Gray, bringing the Bangor company to 95 employees. Bob Chaput, senior vice president of S.W. Cole, said in a prepared statement that the acquisition will complement the company’s existing work in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing.
