TD Bank data loss affects 35,000 Mainers

A data loss at TD Bank in March included information about 35,000 customers in Maine, a number confirmed in letters to the Maine Attorney General's Office.

The Sun Journal obtained two letters sent from the bank to the state this week that detail the scope of the data loss for which the company began notifying account holders earlier this month. The bank had declined to define the scope of the data loss to newspapers.

The data was contained on computer tapes that included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, bank account numbers and driver's license numbers for 34,907 Mainers, the paper reported.

Bank officials said there is no evidence that the data has been misused.

According to The Nashua Telegraph, the number of New Hampshire customers affected remains undisclosed.
