UMPI prez Zillman could stay on

Richard Pattenaude, chancellor of the University of Maine System, yesterday recommended extending Donald Zillman's appointment as president of the University of Maine at Presque Isle by another two years.

Zillman has served on a fixed-length basis as president on the University of Maine at Presque Isle since 2006, when UMPI's former president, Karl Burgher, left the position after a year on the job. No presidential search was undertaken, but an independent reviewer studied the community and campus' needs, Rachel Rice, UMPI's media relations coordinator, told Mainebiz this morning. Pattenaude's recommendation to keep Zillman on the job was based on this study.

The university system's trustees will review Pattnaude's recommendation in May. If accepted, Zillman would serve another two-year appointment, after which he will be eligible for a more conventional appointment following an annual review, Rice said.
