Companies that are focused on the business of wellness are cropping up in southern Maine.

Restore Hyper Wellness, a franchise with 212 locations nationwide, is planning to open its first Maine location on Gorham Road in South Portland.

The new business adds to health-centered companies already up and running in Westbrook's Rock Row.

Based in Austin, Texas, Restore offers treatments that include cryotherapy, IV drip therapy, infrared sauna and compression therapy.

“This is our first location in Maine, with more planned,” Steve Woods, the owner of Restore’s South Portland location, said in a news release.

Woods is the founder of Falmouth-based TideSmart Global. He and his partners, under Zacamy Group LLC, acquired the building that formerly housed the G.H.Bass Outlet at 100 Gorham Road in South Portland. Restore was installed in part of that space.

Woods said he’s opening the location after visiting over 25 Restore outlets and receiving dozens of the services it offers. The mission of the franchise, he said, is to change the health and wellness paradigm from a focus on addressing illness to improving preventive care.

Restore’s services include proprietary cryotherapy chambers, which exposes the body to sub-zero temperatures in a bid to to optimize sleep, defy signs of aging and boost overall energy, according to the franchise's website.

Woods said the South Portland studio features state-of-the-art equipment and trained wellness professionals and offers personalized consultations.

Rock Row, a $600 million mixed-use development in Westbrook, is also seeing new health and wellness businesses at its medical and research campus.

Orangetheory Fitness opened its studio in March and offers group workouts that combine science, coaching and technology. The heart rate-based interval training is designed to increase caloric afterburn, according to a separate news release.

DRIPBaR Vitamin Therapy opened at Rock Row in May 2022, and uses intravenous vitamin therapies as a means to support health.
