Windham’s first hotel to open in mid-February

A “soft rollout” is being planned for mid-February for the new Microtel Inn & Suites on Route 302 in North Windham. Originally scheduled to open by Jan. 1, the 58-room, three-story hotel’s opening has been pushed back by a delay in the delivery of furniture and fabrics needed to complete the project.

Lakes Region Weekly reported that Erik Heyland, owner of Heyland Development and the Microtel Inn & Suites in York, plans to follow the soft launch with a listing of rooms on the Internet sometime between March 1 and April 1.

Heyland told the newspaper he plans to expand the 58-room hotel — Windham’s first large-scale brand-name hotel — to 74 rooms within two years. He plans to hire 15 full- and part-time employees initially and expects to eventually employ 20 to 25 full- and part-time employees at the hotel.

Heyland plans to keep the hotel open year-round, and said room rates will range from $80 to $200, depending on the room size and time of year.
