Wis. wants less restrictions on ME Yankee

Wiscasset will seek to loosen restrictions on the use of the former Maine Yankee nuclear power plant property.

After discussions with its attorneys and a real estate consultant, the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen yesterday decided to ask the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to loosen restrictions on use of the former nuclear power plant property, according to The Lincoln County News. The decision follows Maine Yankee's recent permission to forego complete cleanup of contaminants on the site, other than nuclear, to make it a greenfield, the paper said.

Meanwhile, the board also increased the assessed value of the former power plant property from $4.9 million to $9.9 million. The board will present the figure to Maine Yankee for agreement.
