Construction is underway on NBT Bank’s second location in Portland.
The 1,700-square-foot location, at 191 Marginal Way in the Bayside neighborhood, will include retail services as well as a walk-up ATM and night drop services. The branch is anticipated to open later this year or in early 2026.
This will be NBT’s second Maine location and first walk-up retail branch. It will be next to a Dunkin' location.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth in our customer base and team members in recent years,” said Michael O’Reilly, NBT’s regional president.
NBT Bank, whose parent company, NBT Bancorp (NASDAQ: NBTB), is based in Norwich, N.Y., first established a commercial presence in Maine in 2014. In 2019, it established a regional base at 5 Widgery Wharf in Portland.
NBT is constantly reviewing potential office locations, O’Reilly told Mainebiz.
“In addition to community needs, we analyze several additional factors to assess and prioritize opportunities, including available talent, potential locations and market disruptions," he said.
In Portland, the bank has built a strong commercial lending portfolio and has long looked forward to expanding those relationships and the retail banking side of the business with additional, more convenient locations.
EPIC Retirement Plan Services, a national benefits administration firm under the NBT Bancorp umbrella, shares offices at Widgery Wharf and has additional offices in New Gloucester, he added.
Work is underway to fit out the Marginal Way space with a walk-up ATM and night-drop services.
For the new site, NBT is working with the Boulos Co., Southern Maine Remodeling in Scarborough and Port City Architecture in Portland.
NBT Bank offers personal banking, business banking and wealth management services from locations in seven states, including Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut.
NBT Bancorp had assets of $16.11 billion as of Sept. 30.
