Witham buying another Down East hotel

A Bar Harbor hotelier is adding another hotel to his holdings in the Down East region.

David Witham told the Bangor Daily News Tuesday he is in negotiations to buy the Holiday Inn in Ellsworth from Robert DeSimone of Bar Harbor. The 103-room inn recently closed for the winter for renovations, and may become a Ramada Inn when it reopens in May. Witham expects to keep about 35 to 40 people employed at the hotel.

Witham is Hancock County's biggest hotel owner with nearly a dozen hotels in the region. This year, Witham bought the Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn in Ellsworth, the White Birches hotel and golf course in Hancock and the Best Western in Salisbury, among others.
