Aid for mill workers "critical," say Sens.

Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are urging the federal government to grant aid for workers displaced by the recent closing of Irving Forest Product's Pinkham Mill in Nashville Plantation.

The senators sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor urging the office to approve a Trade Adjustment Assistance application for 74 workers laid off by Irving in January, according to a joint press release from their offices. TAA provides income, job training and job relocation assistance.

"We will do all we can to assist these workers and their families to receive the resources that they will need in the coming months," Snowe and Collins said in the release.
