The horses are long gone from a century-old carriage house in Portland’s West End, and the property is being converted into nine market-rate condominiums — five in the original building and four more in an adjacent new build of two, two-unit townhouses.
The property sits next to the Ronald McDonald House near the corner of West and Carlton Streets and is being called Carlton West.
The development team of Tim Hebert, Jack Soley and Ali Malone purchased the property at 19 West St. in 2023, after it had been vacated most recently by Maine Health.
Lewiston-based Hebert Construction is handling the build and Archetype Architects, based in Portland, has done the design.
Five of the units have already been sold, four in the 11,354-square-foot carriage house and one of the four townhouse homes, which are each close to 3,500-square feet.
Simon Hebert told us the carriage house condos are expected to be finished in late August. The townhouses, which are four stories with ground-level garages and rooftop decks, are planned for completion in the fall.
