Coastal Enterprises Inc. gets $200K grant to expand services

The Brunswick nonprofit Coastal Enterprises Inc. received a $200,000 grant that will help it expand advisory services for entrepreneurs.

The KeyBank Foundation, the philanthropic arm of KeyBank, made the donation as part of its 200th anniversary.

CEI is a Community Development Financial Institution that works to build a thriving economy by growing good jobs, livelihoods and small business ownership for people and communities throughout Maine.

“We are deeply grateful to KeyBank Foundation for this bicentennial grant, which will help us expand our work providing free and low-cost business advising services to entrepreneurs as they start and grow small businesses across Maine, particularly in locations and from communities that have been overlooked and underestimated,” said Betsy Biemann, CEO of the nonprofit.

“This investment strengthens our ability to ensure that low- and moderate-income residents have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed, while also building stronger, fairer and more resilient communities across Maine," she added.

Biemann was honored as a Mainebiz Woman to Watch in 2019.

The KeyBank Foundation is donating $200,000 to community development efforts in each of the bank's 27 markets. These grants will total $5.4 million.

“Coastal Enterprises is on the ground every day, expanding opportunity and access for all. It’s a privilege to work alongside them, especially as we mark this milestone in our legacy," said Anthony DiSotto, KeyBank's Maine market president.

Cleveland-based KeyBank ranks No. 4 on the list of banks with the largest market share in Maine, according to the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists, which cites FDIC data. As of June 30, 2024, KeyBank had $2.8 billion in deposits in 30 Maine offices, giving it 6.38% of the market.
