DOL launches online unemployment info system

Maine's Department of Labor has launched a website for employers to manage and respond to unemployment information requests online.

The new State Information Data Exchange System allows employers to file separation and wage information about former workers online, with no charge.

The online system comes in advance of new penalities that will take effect Oct. 20 for employers that do not respond in a timely manner to DOL requests about separation and other related unemployment issues.

In a press release, Labor Commissioner Jeanne Paquette said this system is an effort to make reporting easier for employers with a small number of unemployment claims.

The system was developed by the U.S. Department of Labor and is being launched in collaboration with state unemployment insurance agencies.
