Harvard Pilgrim plans ACA exchange offerings for 2015

The Massachusetts-based nonprofit insurance carrier Harvard Pilgrim Health Care plans to be the third insurer to offer plans on Maine’s federally run health care exchange in 2015, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Edward Kane, vice president for Harvard Pilgrim’s Maine division, told the newspaper that the company will offer plans in Maine in 2015, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The company will have to file paperwork to enter the marketplace by May 31 in order for customers to sign up for its plans next fall.

Patrick Cahill, an attorney in Harvard Pilgrim’s government affairs department, told Mainebiz in August 2013 that the insurer would likely offer an exchange plan in 2015 and that preparing to meet the information technology requirements of the Affordable Care Act kept the company from offering an exchange plan in 2014.
