Maine Cottage reborn -- in Maryland

The Maryland-based company that in April purchased the name and other assets of defunct retailer Maine Cottage will soon re-release the brand's products.

Furniture store Russell & Mackenna has established a new Maine Cottage store in Severna Park, Md., and next week will begin shooting for a 2012 Maine Cottage catalog, according to The Forecaster. Russell & Mackenna will merge its existing product line with the Maine Cottage line and rebrand itself using the Maine Cottage name. Russell & Mackenna won the bid for Maine Cottage's brand, including the name, copyrights, contact information, fabrics and other intellectual property. Local discount retailer Marden's, meanwhile, bought Maine Cottage's tangible assets, including furniture and equipment, for $1.7 million.

Maine Cottage, an upscale furniture and home store, in March abruptly closed its stores in Yarmouth, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Charleston, S.C. KeyBank took possession of Maine Cottage's assets in February and auctioned them off.
