A long vacant Smitty’s movie theater at the former Five Points shopping plaza on Alfred Road in Biddeford has been repurposed as an indoor sports center, with six pickleball courts, three golf simulator bays and a multi-game wall designed for all ages.
Bounce Pickle + Play is the newest venture to open in the renovated 140,000-square-foot plaza, following Orange Circuit Fitness which debuted earlier this year. Along with the new courts, the 16,000-square-foot theater space is also now home to Match Point restaurant and sports bar.
The plaza, now called the Five, was purchased in the late 1990s by Tim Harrington of Atlantic Hospitality. Harrington is the developer of the Lincoln Hotel in downtown Biddeford along with multiple hotel properties in the neighboring Kennebunks and other locations in New England, and is a 2023 Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year.
The shopping center has been completely renovated, with new roofs and a new facade at a cost of close to $1.5 million. Biddeford-based Nate Libby Masonry headed up the renovation team with Atlantic Hospitality’s in-house designers managing the upgrades.
