Scarborough is seeing a bit of a housing boom, with multiple apartment buildings underway. One of the newest is a 120-unit complex under construction on a 56-acre lot at the corner of Mussey and Gorham roads, dubbed Nonesuch River Apartments.
Pennsylvania-based A.R. Building Co. is developing and building the project, which will include 10 buildings plus a clubhouse with an exercise room, lockers and a leasing office.
Two of the 12-unit buildings are nearing completion, and company spokesman Cam Reber told Mainebiz he expects to begin pre-leasing in the coming weeks.
Reber said the apartments will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, priced “similar to other new communities.”
At the Downs mixed-use development off U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough, where 622 out of 1,500 planned housing units have been built, the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment ranges from $2,450 to $2,745.
Scarborough Town Planner Autumn Speer said the A.R. Building project received planning board approval in November 2022.
Also in 2022, the developer received approvals for a similar project in Auburn. Mt. Auburn Apartments are under construction at 138 Mt. Auburn Avenue. The company has approvals to build apartments in Brunswick as well.
Reber didn’t have a completion date for the Gorham project, but noted the buildings were being finished in groupings.
