Task force maps wind power

The Governor's Task Force on Wind Power released its final report Thursday that recommends a large amount of land to be quickly set aside for wind power development.

The report will now move on to the Legislature, which could develop new laws creating wind power incentives, the Sun Journal reported.

The task force, created by Gov. John Baldacci last May, mapped out areas mostly in central and western Maine that should be considered for "expedited" wind power development, the paper reported. The report suggests that Maine should produce at least 2,000 megawatts of wind power capacity by 1015, and at least 3,000 megawatts by 2020. It also calls for a more streamlined permitting process, according to the Portland news station WCSH 6.
