Yarmouth school district weighs outsourcing custodians, bus drivers

Yarmouth School Department officials say that they’ve been considering outsourcing the district’s bus drivers and custodians as part of a larger strategic plan to curb costs.

Superintendent Andrew Dolloff told The Forecaster that the Yarmouth school district currently employs a dozen full- and part-time bus drivers as part of the $450,000 transportation budget and one part-time and nine full-time custodians as part of a $660,000 budget this year.

According to The Forecaster, the school committee and Dolloff are currently studying the possibility of the outsourcing and plan to make a public presentation on Jan. 26, which will then be followed by more meetings before a decision is made.

“The school committee is doing its due diligence to determine if outsourcing custodial and transportation services is in the best interest of the School Department,” Dolloff told The Forecaster.
