Continuing a trend of Maine-based banks opening branches in New Hampshire — due to factors such as market opportunities and similar operating environments — Bangor Savings Bank said it would open its newest branch in Derry, marking continued expansion across the Granite State.
The branch, at 46 Crystal Ave., will open to the public on June 16, according to a news release.
“As we expand our presence, we look forward to delivering exceptional service and building lasting relationships with our customers and the community, while actively contributing to the growth and resilience of the New Hampshire economy,” said Bob Montgomery-Rice, the bank’s president and CEO.
Derry is in southern New Hampshire.
The bank has steadily grown its presence in the state over the past seven years, opening its first New Hampshire branch in Portsmouth.
In 2018, New Hampshire was the site of Bangor Savings' first expansion outside of Maine, when the institution opened a loan production office in Portsmouth, N.H.
The move into New Hampshire followed a decade of strong growth in Maine’s York and Cumberland counties for the Bangor-based bank.
Since then, the bank has established additional full-service branches in the Granite State — one in Colebrook, two in Concord, one in Amherst and three in Portsmouth, just across the bridge from Kittery. In 2021, the bank opened Bangor Wealth Management of New Hampshire, a New Hampshire trust company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Bangor Savings. A second branch in Manchester was added in early 2023.
In October 2024, Bangor Savings notified Maine regulators of its intent to open the Derry branch.
The Derry addition brings New Hampshire operations to nine locations and a total of 70 branches across Maine and New Hampshire.
The Derry building has all-electric heat, including heat pumps, rooftop solar panels, an ATM, a coin counter and debit cards printed on-site.
Headquartered in Bangor, the bank was founded in 1852 and has over $7 billion in assets. Based on assets as of June 20, 2024, it ranks No. 1 among Maine-based banks in Mainebiz’s 2025 Book of Lists.
