Maine Cancer Foundation distributes grants to 7 organizations

Seven Maine organizations will share $316,000 grants from the Maine Cancer Foundation for cancer prevention efforts across the state.

Cancer remains a leading cause of death in Maine, affecting thousands of residents each year. However, there are numerous ways to reduce risk for the disease and prevent certain types of it, according to MCF.

Over the past decade, Maine Cancer Foundation has invested more than $5.2 million in prevention efforts, including the various evidence-based initiatives undertaken by the seven grant recipients.

“Cancer continues to have a grip on our state, but luckily there are impactful ways to reduce our risk,” said Katelyn Michaud, Maine Cancer Foundation’s programming director.

The Falmouth-based nonprofit “is proud to work with partners statewide to stop cancer before it starts, so fewer of our Maine neighbors are faced with a cancer diagnosis,” she added.
