MaineDOT cancels 75% of paving projects

The Maine Department of Transportation last week canceled 75% of all maintenance paving projects over the next two years because of a lack of funding, according to the Capital Weekly.

MaineDOT said the cuts are necessary to meet funding levels included in the state Highway Fund Budget enacted last week. MaineDOT Commissioner David Cole told the paper that nearly 40% of the paving projects for this year, and all paving projects next year, have been cut, and will remain so unless other resources are identified.

The Joint Standing Committee on Transportation is developing funding alternatives, as mandated in the recently passed budget.
