Canadian premier to push energy sharing

New Brunswick's premier plans to address the Maine legislature Tuesday to discuss developing stronger energy ties between the Canadian province and the state.

Shawn Graham will discuss his plan to construct a second nuclear reactor at Point Lepreau, N.B., which could help support Maine's energy needs if the state decides to pull away from New England's power grid, as is currently being considered by the Maine legislature, the Portland Press Herald reported. Graham also will meet with Gov. Baldacci to discuss progress made on their agreement to explore cross-border power sharing, which was signed last February.

The exportation of energy to Maine is part of Graham's strategy to develop new power sources and economic self-sufficiency in New Brunswick, according to the paper.
