Civic center seeking sponsor?

The city of Augusta may sell naming rights for the civic center to raise money for the facility.

City councilors voted last night to study selling naming rights for the Augusta Civic Center. The extra money would help cover the cost of rising utilities, City Manager William Bridgeo told Mainebiz this morning. "We can see that with steep increases in the cost of heat and utilities and our limited ability to raise our rates in today's market, we're going to have to be creative with our funding opportunities," he said.

The city is paying Front Row Marketing Services of Philadelphia $13,500 to complete the study in the next 60 to 90 days. Selling naming rights could yield between $50,000 and $500,000 a year, according to the Kennebec Journal.
